Junior High Weekly Update: Aug 28th-Sept 1st

Hello Everyone!

It was so great to see you all at the picnic, what an awesome turn out! Last week students learned all about bullying, cyber bullying, and how to be safe online. Students did a great job learning about how to be upstanders instead of bystanders when it comes to bullying and also wrote letters with tips on how they can be safe online. Students also completed their first round of NWEA online testing which assessed their skill levels in Math and English.
This week marks the start of our academic class schedule, which also involves Mrs. Kasperson and I switching classrooms for team teaching. Mrs. Kasperson is in charge of Junior High Pre-Algebra and U.S. History and I lead Junior High English, Life Science, P.E., Electives, and  Algebra. For the elective period, students will create Art with me Monday and Tuesday and then will alternate weekly with Ms. Cyndi’s cooking class and Ms. Nancy’s garden class on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
In English this week students will be reading through Mark Twain’s play “The Million Dollar Bank Note” and will discuss how money and wealth can change how people perceive one another. They will also begin the first lesson in their vocabulary book and focus on types of nouns in Grammar. In Life Science students are learning about the characteristics and necessities of all living things.
