Junior High Weekly Update: Dec 4th-8th

Hello Everyone!

I hope you had a great weekend! Last Friday at our school-wide REACH assembly students enjoyed a talk from Laura Welter of Safe Passage about citizenship and participated in a campus clean-up. Students will be receiving progress reports this week that will need to be signed and returned. Students will also be given missing assignment reports that list assignments students can work on if they would like to improve their grades.
In English this week students will continue writing their NaNoWriMo novels. Students will be writing their novels during the hour long English period Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays during the month of November and December. Students are at about the half way point and have enjoyed having Amie, who is in charge of the NaNoWriMo novel project at the Fort Bragg Library, come in on Fridays to help them with their novels. The deadline for the novels is December 15th. Students will also finish their study of prepositions in Grammar and start Lesson 7 in Vocab. In Life Science, students will begin Chapter 8 which will focus on Charles Darwin’s journey to the Galapagos Islands and his theory of natural selection and evolution. In art students will do an outdoor landscape sketch and then use watercolor to enhance the piece. In PE students have finished the unit of flag football and will begin the new unit on hockey. A parent has also volunteered to come in to the class twice a week and teach dance!
