Junior High Weekly Update: Oct 2nd-6th

Hello Everyone!

I hope you all enjoyed the weekend! The students enjoyed the no-bake cheesecake that the cooking class made last Friday; thank you to those who donated plates, forks, and toppings!  I look forward to meeting with families for the first semester parent-student-teacher conference. It is important that your student also attend the meeting as we will be talking about their NWEA testing results, grades, and discuss any improvements or support that your student can benefit from. Please contact me to sign up for a meeting if you haven’t already!
In English this week students will continue our poetry unit, with titles “I Stepped From Plank to Plank” and “Child On Top of a Greenhouse ” which explore two different types of childhoods using imagery. The poems “Fear” and “Identity”, will give students more practice with similes and metaphors. Students will begin their study of verbs and helping verbs in Grammar and will finish lesson 3 in their Vocab books with a test on Thursday. In Life Science, students will wrap up Chapter 4 with a Bill Nye episode on cells, an edible lab where students build plant and animal cells with all organelles, and the test on Thursday. In art students will be creating their  “Anime” artwork for School Spirit Week. In PE students will continue the soccer unit.
